Did Not Like

My mother was there for rehab. They weren't very clean and I did not like the nursing staff at all. They stole her clothes and insisted on writing on her nice clothes with permanent marker, even after I had written her name on the tags and told them that I would do her laundry. I was not happy. The actual physical therapy was good, but the nursing floor was terrible.

Looks are deceiving

Don't leave your parent or grandparent in there care! Mom's care plan specifically said to take her outside for an hour each day for fresh air. They took her outside all right, when she was asleep. They didn't even talk to her or look at her. I sat in the parking lot and watched. They treated her like she was a plant. Probably the nurses excuse to take a break and get out of the building. This sort of thing burns me up. We are looking for another place because all we got were eyes rolling and rude looks and excuses when we complained.

Change in Quality of Service

This facility is no longer run well and it is costly. There is no administrative responsiveness to family requests for communication. Many changes have been made and are not communicated. The facility is short staffed and not responsive to elderly care, even though the monthly bill is very costly. Residents are now waiting in line to receive food buffet style in Assisted Living in their wheelchairs. This is not appropriate. No response to requests for family meetings regarding residents. This is very different from the past owner [name removed].

Don’t recommend

Toured the assistant living facility, they have more than one building and many apartments. As walking the AL facility many aides were very rude, seen many of them sitting around on their phones got off the elevator and 2 aides were sitting in the chairs on Tik Tok just unprofessional, the woman that gave me the tour [name removed] was nice but I also got a very “stuck up” vibe from her, she herself made some comments that I felt were a little concerning and that kinda made me not want to choose this place, We also toured a apartment but they are very outdated doesn’t seem as if maintenance has kept up on them.

My mother was here in the healthcare center, Housekeeping was great and she always had joy talking to them and them interacting with her they really made her days, The nurses & aides didn’t seem to really care about the patients, they suggested the assistant living for my mother so I did go walk through the building very clean and is a beautiful building but seen many aides just sitting around no interactions with residents just sitting on the second floor right at the entrance on their phones or would have 3 of them sitting at the nurses station down one of the hallways talking inappropriately laughing loud and on their phones, I had witness one of the main nurses I believe her name was [name removed] talking to other employees and was very rude speaking loud and it had made me feel uncomfortable not a place I’d want my mother to be, It’s very sad that those with important jobs don’t have patience nor a care.

Take your loved one elsewhere..PLEASE!

The facility provides poor quality health care in regards to the MED/Rehab center. My 83 yr old mom was admitted for rehab approx. 5+ weeks ago due to a stroke; right side affected. MOST of the CNA's assigned to my mom were extremely rude. The nurses included did not treat her with dignity or respect nor did they make her living environment comfortable. A particular CNA took away my mom's freedom of choice to make her own independent decisions by forcing her to use a bed pan instead of the brief because she did not want to clean her diaper. Another CNA forced my mom to sit up in her wheelchair for 5+ hours after complaining of horrible back pains. The CNA did not want to stop to use the hoyer lift which requires some time and effort in putting her back to bed. The CNA argued with me trying to debate the 5+ hour mark. When my mom was put back to bed her brief and pants were soiled with urine. A CNA along with another CNA were speaking harsh to my mom; they were not aware I could hear them from the bathroom in the room. I could go on & on about the CNA's and what they do when they think no one is watching. That is why my family and I came often and stayed long periods of time. Families have the right to inquire about the care/concerns and when I approach the nurses desk the staff would often ignore me and when they finally decide to acknowledge my presence their tone of voice is as if you are bothering them and you are unimportant. A nurse is one of those people. She will "roll" her eyes and speak loudly in a negative way but not addressing you directly. She along with another nurse act as if you are bothering them when approached. The overall behavior of the nursing staff is highly unprofessional and the skills of the CNA'S are questionable at best. There are three staff members who were great in regards to providing care to my mom. I wish the facility would employ more like them. Unfortunately there are more unprofessional, "ghetto" acting staff members than there are kind and professional ones. My mom was afraid to sleep in fear the staff would harm her. Since being admitted to John Knox Village she has acquired a bacteria resistant infection in her gut twice, a urinary tract infection, pneumonia and NOW she's on a ventilator fighting for her life. I definitely would NOT recommend sending your loved one to this facility for long term or short term treatment.
