Poor Care

I was a resident here. I do not recommend it. Even though I need assisted living, I had to do almost everything myself. I could not get help when I needed it. I liked the activities and the other residents, but that could not make up for lacking assistance with my daily needs like making the bed, access to enough drinking water, extra help getting dressed when I was sick. I never knew who I was supposed to talk to when I had a problem. I never met the supervisors or the staff who were in charge. I don't think they cared about me because they did not meet me personally. I am sorry I had this experience and I am posting this review not to be contrary, but hoping that no one else will have to go through my ordeal.

Memory Unit

My husband [Removed], granddaughter [Removed], our puppy and I arrived at Avista Senior Living North Mountain on August 26, 2016 at 5:50 PM. When we arrived to the second floor Memory Unit I looked for my mom in the TV room. When I didn’t see her in there I asked the care giver at the med station where my mom was she told me that she was in her room. She said my mom refused to get out of bed all day. I asked if she had eaten dinner and she said no. I asked if she had eaten breakfast and lunch she said no. When I walked into my mother’s room I was overwhelmed with the smell of urine. I went back to the caregiver and asked her to go into my mother’s room and clean her up. My mom was compliant with the caregiver. I went into the dining room to wait for my mom to come out for dinner. When the caregiver brought my mom out to me, she sat her down next to me in the dining room and walked away. I went after her and asked her if my mom was going to have dinner. She went into the refridgerator and pulled out a basket, she put it down in front of my mom and lifted the plastic wrap. There was a ham sandwich which consisted of two pieces of dry white bread, 1 slice of ham and a wilted piece of lettace and then some soggy potato chips. I asked the caregiver if there was something else for her to eat and she said no, she missed dinner. The food looked like it was a couple of days old. This ordeal took time away from me being able to spend time with my mother. Every time I visited my mother I would find her sitting in a soiled pull-up with her pants soaked also. I would have to wait for her to be cleaned up so each time I was at Avista North Mountain this taking time away from my visits with my mother. I moved my mother out of Avista Senior Living on Sunday, October 23, 2016. When I arrived my mother was in the TV room. I told her I was there to take her back home. We went into her living area to begin the moving process when I noticed that her pants were completely soaked. I had to go into her restroom to clean her up. I was not in the room when my husband and friend packed my moms belongings. It was not until I got home in Prescott and unpacked her clothes that I found that half of her clothes were missing, a set of sheets were missing and 2 reusable pad protectors were missing. I found clothes and belongings from other clients in my mom's belongings. I sent an email to Jennifer Keyes On-site LPN on October 24, 2016: Hi Jennifer, I moved my mother, [Removed] out of Avista yesterday morning. She is missing clothes, bedding and towels. In her dresser drawers were a pair of men's shorts, a pair of men's pajama bottoms, a pair of men's boxers, a women's 4X shirt, a pair of very small women's pants, 2 towels and a wash cloth, 2 unfitted sheets, and 2 pillow cases, all of which did not belong to her. Could you please look into where the rest of her belongings may be? When I arrived she was sitting in the TV area totally soaked in urine. I had to take her into her restroom and change her briefs and pants. Her hair looked like it hadn't been washed in weeks, her medical bracelets from the hospital were still on her wrists (she was released on Oct. 8th). When I undressed her to give her a shower at my home I found she still had an ekg monitor adhered under her left breast. (No response from Jennifer Keyes). My mother had a fall on October 5, 2016 while walking by herself down the hallway. She was considered a fall risk so she should have been guided by a provider. She hit her head on the wall and immediately a bruise and bump formed because she was on Warfarin. She was transported to Honor Health North Mountain that evening. She was in the hospital until October 8, 2016. I went down to Phoenix on October 10 to visit her and she was bruised in both eyes and then there was a bruise around her throat and down her left shoulder. I was not notified that my mother was prescribed Lorazapam on July 27, 2016, this is a psychotropic medication. Why was this prescribed?

Not a good choice

Don't listen to any of the other reviews. They will charge you more than what they claim, leave your love ones to be cared for by 2 people when there is already 35 people to look after, and lastly do not keep the place clean. It is absolutely filthy. Do your loved ones a favor and find another place.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE

Management and the nurse in Sumner WA were always very unfriendly and unorganized; every time I went into visit my Grandfather, who has dementia, they complained about him for things he was paying them to help him with and called constantly for information that was already provided but they did not update their records when provided. They often called the wrong number and were rude when they got to the correct person because again they never would correctly update their records and were frustrated that you did not call them back. I tried to deal with these issues because of my Grandfather’s inability to deal with change due to his dementia. Final straw was when the nurse REFUSED to call 911 after myself and another family member requested her to do so when she called stating my Grandfather was ill, so I hung up on the nurse and called 911 and my Grandfather was admitted. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, more worried about their image than the sake of the residents.

No Leadership

Yes there are lots of negative comments. The staffing is terrible and over worked and under paid. It all starts at leadership and that just doesn't exist here. Less than 10 percent of staff cares about what they do and that's sad. LEADERSHIP!!!

The place looked nice, and the people were nice.

The place looked nice, and the people were nice. I think we came in with the head nurse looking to retire. The food couldn't even compare to a grade school cafeteria. They couldn't even get oatmeal right, it came out looking like a scoop of ice cream, so thick she would have to add lots of creamer just to make it edible. Most people would order hot dogs, most of the time. It was a little dirty, there was a bit of an aroma. I took her out, because she wasn't being taken care of, she wasn't getting her medication. The people were nice, but I don't think they were as trained as they were supposed to be. After we moved out, I had to speak with the regional Manager to get the financial end of things settled right.

This was not a great experience.

We put her in on a Saturday, and took her out on a Monday, only because we couldn't get her out any quicker. The call button didn't work, she was laying in bed urine soaked. She wasn't being taken care of at all. The caregivers were not aware that they had committed to having a two person assist. The caregivers indicate that it was not unusual for the salespeople to say yes we can do these things, but then caregivers are not aware of what they are expected to do. It might have been a red flag that there were less than twenty people in a facility capable of forty. Things may have improved by now, but it's worth closer inspection if you are considering going there.

Horrible place

Don't put your family member in this place. They leave their shipment of food out for 8 hours. The meat and milk are bAd after this! A med tech gives one narcotic borrowing from one to another. They pile the residents in front of the tv never interacting. The new executive director is horrible And doesn't care about the residents. Keep the back door shut and just get their money.

They specialize in Alzhe...

They specialize in Alzheimers and have trained staff for transfers for non load bearing patients. They also have availability. Hated, hated, hated. Crammed full of people, rooms of central activities areas, small cramped depressing, very few private rooms, smelled of urine, old, needed painting, looks like the furniture was about 35 years old. Had $ for fresh flowers in the entry areas. (a bad sign to me...could be spent elsewhere) like cleaning the jug of water for visitors with oranges floating in it along with a fly, and was so opaque at first I thought it was cereal (:

Too Big and Impersonal

It is absolutely huge. You have to go upstairs with an elevator and my husband could not do that. They gave me an assessment of him that said he would be at the very beginning stages and that he would never have to go to the high care part. But these are lies because everybody knows that they deteriorate. I watched my mother-in-law deteriorate. They will get you in with the cheap rate and then it will have to go up. I did not like this philosophy of Emeritus at all. I don't have any good reviews of them. I thought they were very dishonest and the place was too big and too impersonal.

Lots of vacancies at Louisa Place in Ferndale Washington

LOUISA PLACE used to be a nice place. Since ENLIVANT CORPORATION bought it, the downward spiral is evident. The staff is trying but the Management Style resembles that of a concentration camp. Using the COVID Virus to their advantage to control window visits, create rules that caused undue grief to families and residents, limit communication with staff similar to a “gag order” The residents are lonely and confused. Families are being priced out of the building having to relocate their loved one during a pandemic! Everything about this place is about squeezing more money out of the families. The caring, compassion and love that once existed is no longer exhibited at Louisa Place

Corporate orchestrated a clean of long term residents during Covid.

This place WAS amazing, During Corvid, Corporate brought in a Director to clean out the place. With no walking the halls, dinner was served in rooms and residents unable to walk out of their rooms. This place turned into a disaster and never once did corporate reach out to the residents family care givers. Informing them of the extra care is was taking to administer their normal care due to Covid. This took a huge toll on all residents. Instead they re-evaluated residents at their worse, without conference calls with family caregivers. Then presided to almost double their care rate with no notice. It is horrible what they did to residents that had resided there over 5 years. Buyer beware the welfare of its residents its not their top priority. Just the quick buck, this place did not help with the pandemic, they insisted on making the long term residents move. Also, because this had to be rushed due to the way they orchestrated this clean out. They insisted we move all her belongings thru the main lobby door and other residents. Which made no sense if you where trying to limit exposure with other residents.

No go

You know the phrase beautiful face, ugly personality. That’s the summit, Out of multiple employees I’ve passed or had contact with only one said hi. I walked up to the counter for help everyone else saw me waiting to speak to one of you and no one turned to ask if I needed anything. All your employees look miserable and want to hurt someone. The care is way worse, waited 1 hour for another caregiver to show up so they can help my resident use the bathroom. The lady walked in and had the audacity to say she was helping with breakfast and it was 5am breakfast starts at 7/8am

LQUID LUNCH

Do not put your loved ones in this facility. Current manager has residents feeling as if they can't complain, or they will be sent to a psych facility where they will be drugged and allowed no visitors. [Name removed] brags of his LIQUID LUNCHES, and has liquor on his breathe at any time of day. Facility is currently understaffed, and several members of the nursing staff do not have the credentials to be in their position of Title.Current staff have received little to no education on how to deal with the elderly. State has been notified and will be conducting a review immediately. Kitchen staff has health cards, but continues to cook and serve residents without hair nets and often leave uneaten food on the counter in kitchen.

Change of Management

Residents complain of horrible management. Everything is broken, van used to take residents on outings is broken and residents have been unable to get out in several months. Activities are boring and staff is rude. The windows are washed once every 2 years and residents complaints fall upon deaf ears. The manager is never there and when he is there, the smell of liquor from his "LIQUID LUNCH" and bad attitude, are enough to turn your stomach. Theft of residents items, go unreported. Kitchen staff does not wear appropriate hair nets and leaves kitchen unclean. State has been alerted to conditions, and we hope in the near future to return to standards that are acceptable!!

Management Needs improvement

I was not pleased with this place, The person that gave me a tour was very rude to the other staff around her and seemed to be in charge of the building but she was not the director so I was a bit thrown off. Her name was [name removed] believe...I just would not want my mother to walk by and hear the way management treats staff. (Very poor. This person was undermining staff members confidence as well as work performances. This needs to be addressed.... Because then my mother would worry. This place needs a few improvements and adjustments. I would probably start with management. The caregivers and med techs are very pleasant to be around and seem very knowledgeable and kind! Thank you! I hope this helps!
