AlfredHouse Eldercare, Inc.

We chose this assisted living facility for my mother who has moderate dementia and so needed a secure facility specializing in dementia. She is in the Rebecca House and it's very secure. My mother tends to be pretty critical (that's always been her personality) but says that the staff are very nice and treat her well. I also like the way staff talk to and treat the residents, e.g., with respect and dignity. Staff and owner have been very easy to work with in resolving minor issues and I feel confident they are treating my mother well. The facility serves up to 15 residents and is located in a large home in nice residential area. The decor is not at all fancy and even a bit shabby, but safe and comfortable. Residents have a very small bedroom but there are a number of common areas. There are not a lot of activities, which would be the only real negative. The staff seem to be able to address issues as they arise without having to involve me (which is what I requested). They also have medical staff that visit, which I appreciate. I think my mother is receiving good quality care at Rebecca House, as staff are attentive and kind to her and go out of their way to meet her needs. This was the most important factor for us.

I think they do a good job overall at Avalon Assisted Living. The staff were friendly and professional, and did a great job addressing the concerns of family members and accommodating any requests we had.

It was a nice community. I was looking for more personalized care and this didn't work out for us here.

20 residents. looked not alert sitting in a big circle. Would have to use wheelchair to maneuver thick carpet. Nice caretaker.

In my years of navigating assisted living facilities, I have never encountered so many issues in one organization as I did with AlfredHouse. While my personal experience is with one particular home, this is a family run group. The assisted living manager, the founder's son, manages several other homes, and I can't imagine he does a good (or even passable) job at any house. From day one, he showed limited to no interest in my mom's needs. I was told to go over things with the primary caregiver. No care plan review, nothing. The marketing director assured me that my mom's dietary needs would be taken care of, but after my mom was admitted, the story changed. I had to provide those things at my expense. The caregiver did as she pleased, thereby endangering my mom's health. Complaints to the assisted living manager were not received well, and he became quite hostile. After one week, rather than addressing the many issues at the home, he began to yell at me over the phone, stated that AlfredHouse could not meet my mom's needs, that I needed to hire a personal aide for her, and I needed to move her. Her needs are actually quite simple-regular toileting, vegetarian diet, and proper medication administration. Disgraceful that AlfredHouse could not provide these services for 6K/month. What you get for the money is the cheapest quality food, incompetence, and zero engagement beyond the TV. I would urge everyone to avoid AlfredHouse at all costs.

Stay far far away from all AlfredHouse properties. They exemplify incompetence on all levels. Complete lack of knowledge on dementia, state regulations, nutrition, etc. Family owned, family run group of small homes. Staff is overworked, underpaid, and miserable. There are far better options for seniors out there.
