It has taken me a long time to calm from the horrific experience my loved one had at Elmcroft Medina. The memory care unit is like something out of a horror film. A dark space, no interaction and it looks like their residents are catatonic. In the beginning, while trying to get your money, the staff is wonderful. Once they have your wallet...you're chopped liver and so is your loved one.

My mother in law was there for 3 weeks. This was last June . Place appears very short of staff and not clean. We Trusted the individual who told us what to expect from Harbor Chase. Very sadly, we were mislead . My MIL was there 3 weeks and fell, did not know how to call for help,. Bed was not being made, shower curtain was not put up after a week, pictures not hung and upon moving her out , found that the original plastic covering on mattress was still on and no mattress pad was used just her sheets. After her fall , the 2 rd PT session revealed a mark change and PT ( who was a contract) agency) felt she needed to be re evaluated. The PT and myself got her in the car and no one from the facility came out to see her or help us. Met with director and head nurse to discuss our concerns, in room found dead bugs on window ledge , told room not used much! *Tried 5 times to contact main office, NEVER return call. Apparently starts at the top! Being a nurse myself , I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

The community takes too long to respond when my loved one needed help. Management communication was not good between the staff and us. I would not recommend this community to others.

The listing is incorrect, stating bracelets are given to residents that roam or are known to escape, nothing as such for security. Past reviews are from when this was Sunshine Care, a loving caring community. Cadence only cares about taking your money, they don’t provide security or have employees monitor residents with care. My father was a resident, was left unattended, climbed a fence and passed away. Check Social Services website to get information.

Hudson Creek was horrible. My mother fell, and we weren't even notified. Then a week later she tested positive for covid, and Hudson Creek basically tried to dump her into another facility that had multiple state violations. We were told there would be activities done with my mother, and provided materials for these activities. When I picked up my mother's belongings these materials were with her belongings unused. There were some staff members that were very caring, but the ones in top leadership were only concerned with money not the patients.

I would want others to know when looking into Eagle Ridge that we had a very bad experience here. They would call me in the middle of the night and tell me I needed to pick him up when he would get violent, I had him in another facility and we never had this problem. The staff members did not know how to re-direct him. I would not recommend to others.

Very disappointed in the handling of the pandemic. For the most point, we have not been able to see our loved one but thru plexiglass during the day while we are working and can only go by what our loved one tells us. The food since COVID is horrible. Lots of sandwiches and convenience processed foods. They have been doing the laundry but I'm being told that my loved one is now missing clothes. The facility has to take them to their doctor's appointment otherwise they are quarantined to their apartment for 2 weeks but they have a very small window that they can take them and it fills up fast. Our loved one has bruises on them that can't be explained. They say they provide absolutely no medical assistance but there are non-medical issues that they refuse to help with either. The residents have pretty much been stuck in their rooms and no activities in solitary confinement. They could have music in the courtyard or even games if the resident is wearing their mask but they haven't done anything for them. With what we pay for our loved one to stay here you would expect during this pandemic better food not worse, extra cleaning but instead, they did less because they didn't want to enter the resident's room. I would think if we aren't allowed to check-in and make sure our loved one is doing well then we should be getting a lot more calls. Calls to say that our loved one isn't eating but once a day or that they have fallen and we may want to come out and look at the bruise to make sure they don't need medical attention. It's just been a very disappointing experience.

My mom there 10 weeks and she has 12 falls and most were ER visits. If she didn't eat at the meal time, she didn't get a meal. My mom had dry blood in her mouth, cradle cap, lost a lot a weight, and busted lip. I would not recommend this place. My mom was always dirty, grease in hair, stained clothes, her depends had an odor. I had to move her out.

Twice, they have either mixed up or messed up my mom's much needed medicine as well as missed doctor's appointments. looking for a better place.

My dad fell 10 times in 5 weeks. Need better pre admission assessment to identify potential patients. Hourly checks should be an interaction with the patient, not just looking in the door to see them sitting in a chair. Memory patients don't know what they need. Nutrition was not a priority! Served lots of carbs. Presented sweets before meal completed giving patients the opportunity to bypass nutrition. Did not help patients cut up meat, even though patients had no access to a knife. Very disappointed in the care from such a beautiful facility. Feel very guilty for trusting them with my dad.

My father lived here until I found another facility. Kitchen ran out of eggs for breakfast, milk, fruit frequently. No hair nets for kitchen staff. Strong urine odor throughout. No activity personnel for months. Flea infestation. Residents sleeping on lobby sodas with soiled and soaked under garments. And this place is more expensive than others.

Very disappointed with Elmcroft. They did not care for my grandparents. They made so many excuses it made me sick. We had to pull them out after a month. My grandma was dying and they cared ONLY about themselves as they sat in the breakroom laughing while my aging grandpa did all the work. My grandma passed away as soon as we left Elmcroft. They blamed everyone else other than themselves. My grandpa left crying because his wife was neglected on so many different occasions. Side not, my grandpa is the most gracious person I know. No one should have been treated like that. I hope I’m helping someone by staying away from that place.

People were very nice but the place smelled and didn’t have significant upkeep visible. They also had a long wait list anyway

My first impression was horrible. It started from the receptionist was very unattentive. The Sale Director was not aware of our appointment then made us wait another 20 mins. I would not send anyone there based on the service alone. This looked like a step up from a skilled nursing center.

Visited an studio for my mother, the room was extremely dirty dusty old paint and carpet. Smell of urine everywhere including hallway, dining room carpet turned to black color fro dirt and grease same as hallway. Nevertheless the monthly fee was $7,000/ month for such terrible place, It was an awful experience ,[removed]

I spoken with Rittenhouse multiple times. Rittenhouse evaluated my grandmother and told me they were able to provide her the care she needed. When touring the facility, they wanted me to pay the $1800 community fee that day to save her a room. There was never a mention of the $1800 community fee and it was not in any discussions beforehand nor in any brochures I reviewed. Although, other facilities did not charge a community fee, we were running out of time in finding my grandmother a place. We agreed to break the community fee down in payments. My grandmother was there from [date removed] to [date removed]. Within that time, my grandmother was taken to the ER by ambulance three times. Within the three visits, she stayed a total of 7+ days in the hospital. After her 3rd stay at the hospital, Rittenhouse declined to take her back due to my grandmother being put on a pureed diet. Rittenhouse still charged until her belongings were removed from the room. Cost to Rittenhouse for the short stay was $7838.

My father is a resident there. He is currently in the hospital. The Social Services Dept has reported Farmington Square in Salem to the State due to the condition he was in when he was admitted. We have talked with Farmington about our concerns about the "lack" of care he seemed to be getting and was assured they would take care of the issue. Apparently it was not resolved. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. They need to step up to the need for much better care and monitoring of residents. Being short staffed is not excuse for a person not to receive the care they need.

No kitchette. [Name removed] said she would add a cabinet but there still would be no sink. I did not care for the floor plan of rooms.

[Date removed] To the CMAs, RAs and CNAs I wanted to thank the hard working and dedicated caregivers who have cared for my Mom while she resided there this past almost 4 years. The issues I had with Winterberry Heights were not generally with you, but instead with the administration there. By in large, Mum was safe and well fed, until the past few weeks. There were past issues, but none as bad as what happened last week. When I found my Mom in a state of neglect on [date removed], it would been easy to quickly blame the RA on duty that day, but that simply is not the case. You all have impossible assignments. The facility accepts seniors and disabled folks who have needs far beyond what an assisted living facility can meet. It is a priority to keep those units filled in order to meet profit goals. Then they understaff the place. They assign one RA to an entire level of residents, maybe 35 to 40,, many of them needing lift assists. You are told to be in and out of a room in 5 minutes. This is a set up. This is a recipe for neglect and harm. This is exactly what happened to my Mom. She never wanted to go there. She forgot about a lot of things, but she never forgot her home and she missed it every single day. And she did not want to live with me. So, I looked to Winterberry to be the solution to her needs because of dementia. Most days it was ok. And then when her health started to decline, it was absolutely not ok. I kept a close watch on Mum but I trusted people that I should not have trusted. I wanted so badly to believe all of the promises that were made to me and Mum in that place. I truly believe that Winterberry has potential, but until the balance of only accepting the people who you can take care of, and having the essential level of staffing and skills in place happens, I believe that people will continue to be neglected and/or harmed. This is not your fault. This is the fault of your director, the Hawthorn Corporation and the State licensing and regulatory oversight. Rules need to be made, regulations need to be in place and enforced that will ensure the safety and well being of our seniors and disabled. Our beloved seniors deserve this at the very least. My mother is at [removed] recovering from pneumonia. She is ok and well cared for now. We are hoping that she can get back on her feet and be well soon. However, she will never return to Winterberry Heights. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart, for doing your level best, in impossible working conditions, to care for my Mom.
